Visitation Update: May 10th, 2021

Posted on:

River View on the Appomattox Health & Rehab Center is committed to safely reuniting patients, families, and friends as we move toward implementing visitation within the Center. For many months, the Center has offered virtual and outdoor visitation and compassionate care visits in accordance with CMS and Virginia Department of Health guidance. Beginning May 12, 2021, we are pleased to expand visitation inside the Center while observing core infection control principles.

Our current visitation procedure is as follows:

  • All visitation must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. Scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis by utilizing our online scheduling portal: https://riverview-rehab.com/patient-visitations/.
  • Initially, indoor visits will be scheduled every 10 days to allow the opportunity for all patients to have a visit within a two-week timeframe.
  • Visits will be scheduled for 30 minutes in duration, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. These days and times will allow for the maximum amount of staff support to perform essential functions such as cleaning between visits and processing COVID-19 test results. Visitation hours and days of the week will be expanded in the near future.
  • The number of visitors per patient at one time and the total number of visitors in the Center at one time must be limited. Each patient is allowed 1 visitor per visit. Visitors must be age 12 or older.
  • Visits will be conducted in the Dining Room, which will safely accommodate one visit with visual reminders for social distancing.
  • We ask that you refrain from eating or drinking while enjoying your visit in an effort to eliminate the need to remove PPE.

Safety remains a high priority, and we need your help in maintaining a safe environment for our patients, staff and visitors. Visitors may not visit if any of the following conditions apply:

  • visitor has had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more within a 24-hour period) with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the prior 14 days.
  • visitor is observed to have symptoms of COVID-19 or reports having symptoms.

Symptoms include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea

  • visitor has a fever of 1000F or higher or reports feeling feverish
  • visitor is under current evaluation for COVID-19, such as awaiting a test results due to exposure, or close contact to a person with COVID-19
  • visitor has had a diagnosis of COVID-19 within the prior 10 days

Visitors should inform the Center if they develop a fever or other symptom consistent with COVID-19 within 14 days of visiting the Center.

Core Principles of COVID-19 Infection Prevention that must be followed during each visit:

  • screening for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, including temperature check
  • practice hand hygiene, preferably using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • face masks must be worn when traveling to and from the visitation area and while visiting an unvaccinated patient
  • In cases where the patient and visitor have both been vaccinated, face masks may be removed when visiting alone in a private location or outside.
  • maintain social distancing of a minimum of 6 feet, unless the patient has been fully vaccinated and wishes to have close contact
  • visits will be limited to 30 minutes in duration until further notice
  • The Center cannot accommodate children under 12 years old at this time. Children must be able to wear a mask at all times.
