Hurricane Ian Update

Dear Family Member:

I am sure you have seen news coverage about the emergency response of skilled nursing centers following hurricanes in Florida. Now that hurricane season is upon us and the looming threat of Hurricane Ian drawing near, I wanted to take a moment to reassure you that the safety of your loved one is our top priority.

First, I want you to know that River View on the Appomattox Health & Rehab Center has a detailed emergency response plan in place. Our plan includes procedures for sheltering-in-place as well as evacuating all patients safely if that is necessary.

In preparation for Hurricane Ian, we have already begun implementing our emergency operations plan. We ensure that food, water, medications, and medical supplies are delivered before the storm. Our generator has been tested and fueled to maximum capacity. We also have created a staffing plan to ensure our patients experience no interruption in care. You can always email me at stubaugh@riverview-rehab.com and follow us on Facebook and Twitter, as those are the best ways for us to provide updates in mass quantity during an emergency.

Having a plan is important, but it’s just the first step. Our staff has been practicing our emergency procedures. Throughout the year, we conduct regular emergency drills specific to our region and likely weather events to ensure we are fully prepared. In addition, we have worked closely with our local first responders as well as our regional healthcare coalition, which provides us daily updates from the national weather service to stay ahead of the storm. We also provide routine updates to the Central Virginia Healthcare Coalition to ensure that we have their support during any situation that may occur.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to call or stop by any time.

Sincerely,

Sarah Tubaugh, LNHA
